MUSIC
We believe that music is an important part of the educational process for developing students into God-honoring members of the kingdom. BCS offers several musical opportunities. An emphasis on performance through concerts, recitals, and special programs provides students the opportunity to use their music as a witness for God. The music department strives to be rooted in the gospel by focusing on how music is a gift from God and is to be used for His glory. The music instructors strive to be relational by establishing atmospheres that provide students with a sense of family. The content in each music class strives to be relevant in an ever-changing world. The music curriculum strives to be rigorous by providing the depth of music learning from the early foundational years through the developmental years.

GENERAL ELEMENTARY MUSIC
The Elementary Music Department works hard to provide a foundational love and understanding for music. The program enjoys demonstrating its growth during the Christmas and Spring concerts.
ELEMENTARY CHOIR
The Elementary Choir enjoys singing a variety of music repertoire. The music ranges in styles and includes both sacred and secular choral literature. The choir has enjoyed success at ISSMA contests.
ELEMENTARY BAND
The Elementary Band enjoys playing a variety of music repertoire. The music ranges in styles and includes both sacred and secular band literature.
JUNIOR HIGH CHOIR
The Junior High School Choir enjoys singing a variety of music repertoire. The music ranges in styles and includes both sacred and secular choral literature. The choir has enjoyed success at ISSMA contests.
JUNIOR HIGH BAND
The Junior High School Band enjoys playing a variety of music repertoire. The music ranges in styles and includes both sacred and secular band literature. The band has enjoyed success at ISSMA contests.
HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR
The High School Choir enjoys singing a variety of music repertoire. The music ranges in styles and includes both sacred and secular choral literature. The choir has enjoyed success at ISSMA contests.
HIGH SCHOOL BAND
The High School Band enjoys playing a variety of music repertoire. The music ranges in styles and includes both sacred and secular band literature. The band has enjoyed success at ISSMA contests.
WORSHIP ARTS
The Worship Arts Team (chapel worship team) is made up of students selected from the director’s suggested list of students. These students lead the student body in worship at the weekly chapel. Many of the band/choir students play other instruments for the worship arts team.
AP MUSIC THEORY
The AP Music Theory class provides a rigorous educational environment by studying music theory at the college level.
JAZZ BAND
The BCS Jazz Band meets prior to school and consists of students interested in learning the Jazz genre of music. Jazz band allows for a variety of instruments and skill levels and will perform at special events.
DRUM LINE
The BCS Drum Line meets prior to school and consists of students interested in honing their percussion and rhythm skills, in preparation for performance and competition. This group will perform at regular intervals for school functions.

FACTS
- Bethesda partners with colleges and professional musicians/teachers for sectionals, workshops, and clinicals.
- Students are equipped to serve as musicians in their local church ministries.
- Multiple students have been selected for Honors ensembles.
- Approximately 95% of students who participate in ISSMA Sole and Ensemble contests receive superior (gold) ratings.
- Students can be in both band AND choir.
- A large number of alumni come back to play in the Pep Band.
